Talking About Window Options and Placement Techniques

Care For A Bay Window That Was Recently Installed

If a damaged window in your living room was recently replaced with a new bay window that has a vinyl frame, preserving the glass surface and preventing scuff marks or scratches from forming can be accomplished with some basic maintenance procedures. Follow the advice below to care for the new window.

Supplies

  • Drop cloth
  • Glass cleaning agent
  • Soft sponge or cloth
  • Ladder
  • Pruning shears
  • Detergent
  • Warm water
  • Utility pale
  • Plastic scraper

Occasionally Wipe Both Sides Of The Glass

Clean both sides of the glass to eliminate fingerprints, smudges, or other marks. If the interior side of the glass is fairly dirty, use a washable drop cloth to cover the flooring under the window before spraying glass cleaner across the windowpane. Use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe the glass cleaning agent across the glass. Wipe the glass with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture.

Head outdoors. If the bay window cannot be reached while you are standing on the ground, set up a utility ladder next to the window. After climbing several steps up the ladder, use glass cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge to clean the exterior side of the glass.

Trim Branches That Are Growing Nearby And Remove Sticky Substances

If trees or shrubs are growing next to your residence, pruning branches will prevent the risk of one of the branches rubbing against the glass and scratching its surface. Use standard pruning shears to cut back branches each fall. Make sure that items with sharp edges are never placed next to your home, potentially causing damage to the bay window. Never place furniture against the interior side of the window. If you would like to place furniture next to the window, leave several inches between the furnishings and glass.

If a sticky substance ever comes into contact with the glass and you cannot remove it with standard glass cleaner and a sponge or cloth, soften the substance by placing a sponge that has been dipped into a homemade cleaning solution against the substance. Press against the sponge so that the soapy water comes into contact with the substance. Hold the sponge in place for several minutes.

After the substance has softened, use a plastic scraper to remove the sticky substance. Do not press the end of the scraper against the glass. Instead, lightly move the tip of the tool over the substance. After the sticky material has been eliminated, clean and dry the bay window as usual.
